On Friday, 3rd October 2025, Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs) from the Metropolitan Police Service were deployed on an operation to apprehend Craig Evans, a known member of an Organised Crime Group (OCG) who intelligence indicated was preparing to flee the country.

Upon arrival in Camden, it was observed that a significant number of unarmed Metropolitan Police assets were present within the vicinity of the target property. To mitigate the immediate risk to life and prevent escalation, scene command made the decision to strike the property without delay.

During entry, Craig Evans produced a TEC-9 submachine pistol and discharged a round in the direction of police officers, presenting a direct and lethal threat. In response, two Authorised Firearms Officers returned fire. Craig Evans was struck and fatally injured.

SORT paramedics were deployed to provide immediate medical assistance. On assessment, they confirmed that the injuries sustained were unrevivable and commented that Evans would likely have died before reaching the ground.

In line with procedure following a fatal police shooting, the two officers who discharged their weapons have been suspended from operational duties pending a full investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The scene was secured, evidence preserved, and the incident remains under investigation.
