The ARVs conducted surveillance on the suspect vehicle as it travelled through the area, maintaining a safe distance and ensuring they were in position to respond if necessary. The vehicle eventually came to a halt at a junction, at which point the ARVs moved in to box the vehicle in from multiple angles, effectively trapping the suspect inside and preventing any further movement.

Upon being boxed in, the suspect immediately decamped from the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspect, but he managed to get around a corner before turning and opening fire on the Firearms officers. The suspect discharged multiple rounds in the direction of the officers, who responded by discharging multiple rounds back at the suspect. During this exchange, one suspect was struck with multiple gunshot wounds (GSWs) to the torso.

A Firearms Sergeant, who was involved in the response, was also struck by gunfire, though the officer’s injuries were determined to be minor in comparison. The immediate threat was neutralised, and emergency medical protocols were swiftly implemented. HEMS Trauma teams were deployed to the scene to provide rapid trauma care to both the injured parties. The suspect, who had sustained major gunshot wounds to the torso, was treated at the scene by HEMS units before being taken to Mount Zona Hospital in critical condition. The Firearms Sergeant, who had sustained minor injuries, was also treated by HEMS personnel before being taken by road for further medical attention.

Both individuals were transported under urgent care, with the suspect’s condition described as critical. Investigations into the events surrounding the incident, including the firearm, the drugs involved, and any other potential criminal activity, are ongoing. The officers involved are receiving necessary support and medical care, and the situation is being thoroughly reviewed in line with standard protocols. The investigation will continue to gather evidence from the scene, including CCTV and witness statements, to build a comprehensive understanding of the events.
